1) What departments and majors does Ajou offer to international students?

Ajou University offers various majors, as listed below :


  • College of Engineering
  • College of Information Technology
  • College of Natural Sciences
  • School of Business Administration
  • College of Humanities
  • College of Social Sciences
  • College of Law
  • School of Medicine
  • College of Nursing
  • College of Pharmacy

Normally School of Medicine, College of Nursing and College of Pharmacy majors are not opened to international students, and available majors could vary on each semester.

2) What general qualifications are required for undergraduate admission?

Please see the information below:


  • A. Both students and parents should be foreigners.
  • B. One of the following requirements listed below should be satisfied :
    • - Over level 3 of Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK)
    • - Certain level of English language ability
      (Above 550 in TOEFL PBT, 210 in TOEFL CBT, 80 in TOEFL IBT, 5.5 in IELTS, 550 in TEPS or other state-
      authorized English proficiency test scores)
      [Only required for transfer admission to Business Administration and Information & Computer Engineering]

However, if you are a student with dual nationality, or if you applied for two or more admission types or divisions at the same time, your application might be denied.

3) Can I apply for transfer admission, instead of freshman admission? And what qualifications
should I meet?

Yes, you can. Ajou University offers two types of admission for the international students:

FRESHMAN admission and TRANSFER admission.

Classification Qualification
Freshman Admission Complete the entire curriculum of elementary, junior high and high school overseas over 12 years or more
Transfer Admission Complete the entire curriculum of elementary, junior high and high school programs overseas, and also complete two or more years in a four-year university (For three-year technical colleges, graduation is necessary), and then you can be enrolled in the third year of the undergraduate program in Ajou.

4) I do not speak Korean… Is there still any possibility for me to study at Ajou?

Even though Ajou University offers many courses in English, you still have to meet the requirement for the Korean language proficiency for admission, and the interview will also be held in Korean.


For studying Korean language, you are recommended to take Korean language courses in the Language Institute of Ajou University.

5) What documents should I prepare in advance for admission application?

For admission, you will have to prepare the required documents such as application form, self-introduction essay, graduation certificates and transcripts which prove your academic records, etc


For studying Korean language, you are recommended to take Korean language courses in the Language Institute of Ajou University.

6) After submitting the required documents, what do I do?

The whole procedure for admission application process is as follows:

7) When does the school start? When does the application for admission start?

Normally Spring admission is opened two times:

  • 1st: Beginning of July (freshmen admission only)
  • 2nd: Middle of Dec. (freshmen and transfer admission)
Fall Semester Fall Semester (Beginning of Sep.) Mid June (freshmen and transfer admission)

8) How much are the tuition fees and living costs at Ajou?

9) As an international undergraduate student, can I receive any scholarship from the university or from the Korean government?

Entry Semester (1st Semester) 30% of tuition fee
[for students with over level 4 of TOPIK or over TOEFL 560 (CBT 223, iBT 85), or TEPS 700]
Second Semester
  • Obtain 13 credits or more without ‘F’ in the immediately preceding semester
  • GPA of 2.5 or higher in the immediately preceding semester
  • The scholarships will be given on the basis of your GPA of the previous semester

*Students who have not obtained the entry semester scholarship due to not having the above mentioned test scores, should submit the language proficiency score after admission to the university in order to be eligible to receive international students scholarship from the second semester.
