In a ceremony held on March 15th in Ajou University's Yulgok Hall, Wind River Korea agreed to donate the license of VxWorks, a real-time operating system software, to the Department of Software and Computer Engineering. The license is worth about KRW 500 million.

Wind River Korea is a software company specializing in intelligent connected systems and provides its software and technology for next-generation connected cars to automakers. VxWorks is an operating system dedicated to IoT and embedded systems and is the most extensively used such system in the world.

The Department of Software and Computer Engineering plans to utilize VxWorks in the classes and laboratories of its major subjects connected with vehicle software. Thus, students majoring in vehicle-related software will have opportunities to create software for automobile operation systems before graduation, which will help them meet industrial requirements both in terms of theory and practical ability.

The software donation ceremony was attended by Dean Ki Yeol Ryu of the College of Information Technology and Director Young Bae Ko of the Department of Software and Computer Engineering from the University, and Director Gye Nam Kim and other officials from Wind River Korea.

At the event, Director Gye Nam Kim said, "I am pleased that Ajou University students can develop their abilities with our products," adding, "I hope that this donation will lead to a successful case of industry-academia cooperation."

Dean Ryu said, "I am glad that we were able to work together in preparing today's event. And we feel responsible and will try our best in software education for our students."

Director Young Bae Ko stated, "I am grateful for the donation of this expensive operating system software. We are planning to actively utilize it in vehicle-related convergence software education and experiments as well as industry-academia research. By doing so, we will be able to foster talents who can lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which includes self-driving cars and smart factories."
