[16.09.13]

The Graduate School of International Studies under Ajou University arranged a meeting of the 'BEC.AR' Program graduates in Buenos Aires, Argentina. 'BEC.AR' is a scholarship program run by the Argentine government and operated by Ajou over the past three years since 2013 for the first time among South Korean universities. The total number of the Program graduates so far has reached ninety-six.

The meeting, which was held on August 31st, was attended by about forty graduates of the Program, Dean Jay Ick Lim of the Graduate School of International Studies, South Korean ambassador to Argentina Jong Youn Choo, and Director of the Korean Education Center in Argentina Sang Mok Han as well as officials responsible for the Program from Argentina.

During the event, participants developed friendships while discussing their experiences in South Korea. Alit Fiorella Fasce, a Program graduate who is now working as a program manager at the Department of Science and Technology under the Argentine government, said, "The three months that I spent in Korea was a turning point in my life," adding, "I would like to contribute to the development of my country by best utilizing the experiences and knowledge I gained there."

The BEC.AR Program was launched by Argentina's Office of the Prime Minister to foster science and technology experts. Under the Program, the Argentine government sends talented people from public organizations, companies, and academic institutes to the U.S., France, Italy, and Brazil as well as South Korea. Ajou was selected as the only institution in South Korea to educate the participants in information and telecommunications, bio engineering, and nano technology. The Argentine government covered all of the expenses for BEC.AR, which means 'scholarship funds' in Spanish.

Dean Jay Ick Lim said, "We at Ajou are proud to have been involved in the Program and to have educated ninety-six graduates," adding, "Building on the partnership with Argentina, the University hopes to continue exchanges in many other areas, including internship programs and doctoral courses."
