Ajou gives lectures to local high schoolers as part of the Gyeonggi Education Cluster Project[16.09.22]Ajou University is offering a program to high school students in which they can get a taste of university lectures. The program, which is available from August to next February, is part of the Education Cluster Project carried out by the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education.Under the Project, universities offer various learning opportunities to students attending neighboring high schools. Ajou's professors or students in their master's or doctoral courses will give special lectures or arrange experiments related to their majors for high schoolers.On September 20th, Professor Kuzuburi (Department of Korean Language and Literature) from the University kicked off the program by giving a lecture entitled 'Appreciation and Understanding of Modern Literature' at Jangan High School located in Jangan-gu, Suwon City. Also in attendance at the lecture were students from neighboring Daepyeong High School and Sukji High School.One of the student participants said, "The lecture was an opportunity for me to better understand poems and become more sensitive," adding, "I assumed that it would be similar to a high school lecture, but it was quite interesting and satisfying to me." Under the Program, the University is also offering Bio Science Experiments (Department of Biological Science), International Relations and Relevant Institutions (Department of Political Science and Diplomacy), and Culture in the Francophone Countries (Department of French Language and Literature).Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education is operating the Education Cluster Project to help local schools share and utilize education curriculum and subjects. It gives students the choice to take subjects that are available at other schools within the cluster, even if their own schools do not offer them. One hundred thirty-six schools are participating in the Project, including general high schools, vocational high schools, and special-purpose high schools.

Ajou arranges a meeting of the 'BEC.AR' Program graduates[16.09.13]The Graduate School of International Studies under Ajou University arranged a meeting of the 'BEC.AR' Program graduates in Buenos Aires, Argentina. 'BEC.AR' is a scholarship program run by the Argentine government and operated by Ajou over the past three years since 2013 for the first time among South Korean universities. The total number of the Program graduates so far has reached ninety-six.The meeting, which was held on August 31st, was attended by about forty graduates of the Program, Dean Jay Ick Lim of the Graduate School of International Studies, South Korean ambassador to Argentina Jong Youn Choo, and Director of the Korean Education Center in Argentina Sang Mok Han as well as officials responsible for the Program from Argentina.During the event, participants developed friendships while discussing their experiences in South Korea. Alit Fiorella Fasce, a Program graduate who is now working as a program manager at the Department of Science and Technology under the Argentine government, said, "The three months that I spent in Korea was a turning point in my life," adding, "I would like to contribute to the development of my country by best utilizing the experiences and knowledge I gained there."The BEC.AR Program was launched by Argentina's Office of the Prime Minister to foster science and technology experts. Under the Program, the Argentine government sends talented people from public organizations, companies, and academic institutes to the U.S., France, Italy, and Brazil as well as South Korea. Ajou was selected as the only institution in South Korea to educate the participants in information and telecommunications, bio engineering, and nano technology. Ajou offers "AFTER YOU" scholarships to ten Uzbek students[16.09.12]On September 8th, a ceremony was held at the President’s Office in Yulgok Hall to present certificates of scholarships under the AFTER YOU Program to Uzbek students who will study at Ajou University this fall semester.The ten students come from the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED), Ajou's sister university. They are the first group of foreign students Ajou has invited to South Korea to promote the Program objective – fostering social mobility – in addition to sending Ajou's students to overseas universities. The scholarship funds will cover the full tuition and boarding expenses for the incoming UWED students.They will attend Ajou University as exchange students, including scholarship awardee Yokubov Abdulaziz, who will study in the Department of Business Administration.The ceremony began with a presentation of certificates, followed by words of encouragement by President Dong Yeon Kim, and comments from UWED students. Established in 1992, UWED specializes in international relations and law, and it signed an MOU with Ajou in 2005.At the ceremony, Abdulaziz said, "I am very happy to study at Ajou and thankful that it provides such excellent facilities and education programs," adding, "I will work hard to become a talented citizen so that I can contribute to the development of my country."The AFTER YOU Program, one of several projects that Ajou launched last year, is an intensive overseas training program for students who find it hard to build overseas experience due to various difficulties. Two hundred twenty students have built various experiences at Program partner universities in China and the U.S. over three sessions since summer vacation last year. Ten percent of Program participants were selected from students attending other local universities. The Program is funded by donations from people who agree with the need for such an initiative.

A ceremony is held to present awards to Ajou's long-serving professors[16.09.02]A ceremony for presenting awards to Ajou's long-serving faculty members was held on the morning of September 2nd in Yulgok Hall's Conference Room 1.The awardees were a total of thirty-two faculty members and, of them, nineteen professors attended the ceremony, including two who have worked at Ajou University for 30 years, five who have served for 20 years, and twelve who have worked for 10 years. Ajou welcomes 19 companies to Research Town[16.09.02]On September 2nd, Ajou University held a ceremony in the Video Conference Room, etc. for celebrating the opening of Research Town in relation to the Technological Development Project through Industry, Academia, and Research Institute Collaboration.Under the Project, R&D centers of small- and mid-sized enterprises (SMEs) are established in Research Town and carry out research activities on campus with professors specializing in the relevant fields. The Research Town Project aims to develop a win-win system between businesses and the University.Earlier this year, Ajou was selected as an institution to run the Research Town Project. The University is set to carry out research collaborations with nineteen SMEs and receive 1.59 billion won in government contributions. The project period is up to two years. The University can receive up to 100 million won for R&D in the first year and another 100 million won for R&D and technological commercialization in the second year based on performance evaluation.Ajou Research Town is located at the Campus Plaza with a total of 911 square meters and was designed to conveniently support R&D, the creation of prototype products, and commercialization, etc. Ajou's professors will work together with businesses on different research tasks.President Dong Yeon Kim said, "I expect that Research Town will help the businesses and other participants adapt to the fast-changing world," adding, "I will provide every possible support for the successful operation of the Town." The ceremony was attended by President Kim, Suwon City Mayor Tae Young Yeom, and Chairman Dong Seok Suh of the Korea Association of Universities, Research Institutes, and Industries as well as CEOs of the businesses that have R&D centers at Research Town.
