SEMINAR ABSTRACT

Biopharmaceutical development procedure consists of two stages, cell line development and bioprocess development. Many strategies have been developed in biopharmaceutical development, but more important thing is how to identify the reliable target gene and factors to maximize bioprocessing efficiency. In this sense, omics data analysis or in silico modelling can be applied to biopharmaceutical development. Particularly, modelling approach enables us to clearly characterize global metabolic flux distribution in cells, so we can identify which reactions are limited or which reactions are coupled together. Then, we can generate rationally designed hypothesis for cell engineering target as well as media component target. In this presentation, systems approach for biopharmaceutical development will be briefly introduced. Then, case studies using either conventional or systems approaches will be presented. Thus, we can compare model-guided approach with conventional approach to characterize metabolism for profound understanding as well as media design.
