Abstract 

Peptide is small fragment derived from protein and it holds premise as a tool for new drug development or new materials for medical devices in regenerative medicine. Not only as by itself, peptide can be combined with any type of the molecules including protein and antibody, or genetic material such as siRNA and mRNA. Peptide modification has been applied to increase bioavailability, target identification or mimicking the protein fuctional domain. These modifications can be made in accordance of the target characteristics, which is called as “Target oriented peptide therapeutics discovery (TOPscovery)“. By introducing or alternating with specific amino acid sequence, the peptide can be further optimized for better therapeutic efficacy. The peptide is also attractive material as by itself can be a drug candidate and can be a component of biomaterial or regenerative medical device. The discovery of functional peptide can be achieved by both library selection or by phage display method. The discovery and product development by using peptide will be detailed discussed.
