[Incoming] [Exchange student] Mandatory Subscription of National Health Insurance

Obligated to join Korean National Health Insurance
Due to the policy change, as of March 1st 2021, all international students in Korea are obligated to join Korean national health insurance.
Students will automatically become members of the Korean national health insurance service starting on the day of alien registration.
The monthly cost of the national health insurance is around 39,540 KRW.

Health Insurance Exclusion
If the student has other health insurance plan from home country and the plan has equivalent insurance coverage as Korean national health insurance, the student may apply for health insurance exclusion to NHIS(National Health Insurance Service).
In this case, the student must prove that his/her insurance plan has wide coverage as Korean national health insurance.
* Please note that applying for health insurance exclusion can be rejected.
Required document for application of Health Insurance Exclusion
- An insurance certificate in Korean stating the details of insurance subscription, date of subscription, scope of coverage, amount of coverage
- Students must prepare the certificate in KOREAN.
