NEW Graduate School of International Studies holds symposium on Civil Society in Asia
The Graduate School of International Studies at Ajou University has held an international symposium themed as “Civil Society in Asia.” Held in the Media Conference Room in the Yulgok Building on the 8th, the symposium rallied students of the Graduate School of International Studies for presentations and discussions. The academic event opened with an address by Chang Byeong-Yun, Dean of the Graduate School of International Studies.
The first presentation was given by Ochgerel Tsedenbal, a civil sociology student, on “Developing Volunteerism in Mongolia: Policy Recommendations and Strategic Analysis.” The second presentation was given by Abigail Amon, also a civil sociology student, on “Aspirations and Sustainability of Youth HIV Civil Society Organizations in the Philippines.”
The third and last presentation was given by Ram Pravir Kumar, another civil sociology student, on “The Role of Civil Society in Consolidating Democracies in India and the Republic of Korea, 1991-2021: A Case Study.”
The presentations were followed by student discussions involving a panel made up of students McKenzie Antonette Gooding, Annie Favour Chioma, Kevin Orlando Roa Gomez, and Veronika Basiuk engaged in Q&A and discussions with the students that had given the presentations. The discussions were moderated by Kang Shin Goo, Professor of Political Science at the Graduate School of International Studies.
Since the first Ajou GSIS International Symposium was held in 1997, the Graduate School of International Studies has continued the tradition every year as an opportunity for international students to share insights that can help with their studies and personal and academic growth.
Established in 1996, the Graduate School of International Studies at Ajou University has produced around 1,300 graduates to date. The graduates, from 77 countries, are today active in their respective fields around the world. The Graduate School of International Studies at Ajou University currently offers programs in International Business, International Trade, International Development and Cooperation, NGO Studies, Energy Studies, and Civil Society Studies.
