A paper from a team of researchers led by Prof. Lee Je-chan (Department of Environmental Engineering) that discusses the development and outcome of a production process capable of producing a far more economical monomer than existing processes was featured on the cover of the latest online issue of Reaction Chemistry and Engineering entitled, “Economically-feasible production of a nylon monomer using RANEY® catalysts.”

Prof. Lee’s team studied a way to overcome the limits of the current method for commercial production of nylon monomers. Nylon is a synthetic material with an almost infinite range of applications, including fabrics and film.

Prof. Lee explained: “Research on improving the economic feasibility of manufacturing processes is crucial to the innovation of commercial operations. While it has not been easy to conduct our research at the required scale in our single lab, this study has inspired us to continue with our search for more economically feasible processes.”
